When Aspose is the better choice
- Files bigger than browser memory. RowDocs parses workbooks in your browser, which is exactly why it caps per-file size at 50 MB. Server-side processing has no such ceiling — for very large files on a paid Aspose tier, uploading is the trade that makes the job possible at all.
- Developer API automation. The free merger is, in their own words, “processed using Aspose APIs” — an on-ramp to the Aspose.Cells developer libraries. If you are building software that merges spreadsheets programmatically, that product line is their genuine strength, and RowDocs offers nothing comparable.

Common questions
Why does the 2 MB free cap matter?
Because most real workbooks are bigger than 2 MB. A master file with a few thousand rows and a header of formatting clears it easily — which pushes the Aspose free tool into its paid Premium/Business tiers (whose prices are not published on the page). RowDocs' caps are technical, not commercial: 100 MB at intake, 50 MB per file for in-browser processing, free either way.
Do my sheet tabs survive the merge?
With RowDocs, yes — tab preservation is the default, and sheet-name collisions are deduplicated instead of overwritten. The Aspose merger page shows a one-sheet merge with no tab-preservation option visible (read 2026-08-12). If your goal is 'quarterly files into one workbook with every month as its own tab', that difference is the whole job.
How long does each service keep my files?
Aspose states files are processed on their servers and deleted after 24 hours. RowDocs never receives your files, so there is nothing to delete — the merge happens in your browser, and the network tab will show no upload while it runs.
